As we are getting geared for nationals, our team decided that it would be good to get some more canoeing practice in before everyone went their separate ways for the summer. Here are some pictures from "Canoe Camp 2012".

We drove up to Bear Lake on Friday night and played volleyball, frisbee, and had a campfire when it got dark. Getting the fire started was an adventure, but we all survived and had a great time.

We got up bright and early Saturday morning and started our day with a wonderful breakfast.

Our team had the opportunity to do some service as well.  While the racing teams got ready to practice, some of the other team members helped one of our own with her wedding announcements.

We began practicing,

 were cheered on,

and shown the new endurance race.

A couple of our team members were cold a tired, so they decided to take a nap in the canoe box.

We finished the day strong with the coed team and we are so excited to participate at nationals.

ASCE Rocky Mountain Region Conference 2012

Well, we made it to regionals and were very excited to compete against the other teams. Following are pictures of events that the canoe team participated in, in chronological order.

First was "Canstruction", which we did not do very well in (as you can probably see).  Points in this category are just for participation. All cans were donated to a local food bank following the event.

Swamping the canoe.  We had to completely submerge the canoe to make sure that our concrete design would float and assure that there were no holes in the canoe.

Racing. We took first in the Women's Sprint, Men's Sprint, and Men's Endurance and third in the Coed and the Women's Endurance.

After the awards with our trophies and certificates.

Don't worry, we are still #1.

Finally, our reclaimed trophy. Great job to everyone who participated! The canoe team is now headed to the National Concrete Canoe Competition in Reno, NV from June 13 to the 16. We would also like to say good luck to the Steel Bridge Team at their national competition later this month!
